Softwood Driveway Gates

Made-to-measure softwood driveway gates. A handsome entrance at a sensible price.

Made-to-measure softwood driveway gates at a residential entrance

Bespoke driveway gates in treated softwood, built to the opening and hung on solid posts. A cost-effective way to get a proper, made-to-measure entrance with the strength and balance of a hand-built gate. Painted or treated to suit the property, and built to swing true.

Are softwood gates strong enough for a driveway?

Yes, built properly from treated softwood on well-set posts they make a strong, lasting entrance at a more accessible price than hardwood.

Should softwood gates be painted?

Painting gives a smart, traditional finish and adds protection. They can also be treated and left more natural. Painted gates need occasional repainting.

How long do softwood gates last?

With good joinery, treatment and proper posts, expect many years of service. Keeping the base clear of standing water helps the posts last.

Can I match the gates to my fencing?

Yes, we build gates to match a close board, picket or post-and-rail boundary so the whole frontage works together.

Do you set the posts as well?

Always. The posts carry the weight of the gate, so we bed them firmly to keep the gate swinging true and stop it dropping on its hinges.
