Why do estate trees need guards?
Young trees in grazed parkland are vulnerable to browsing and rubbing from deer and livestock. A proper guard protects the tree until it is established.
What is a cattle and deer-proof guard?
A sturdy timber or metal frame built around the tree, tall and strong enough to keep cattle and deer from browsing or rubbing it, unlike a light plastic guard.
Do you plant the trees as well?
Yes, we plant, stake and brace standards and whips, then guard them, so the whole job is done as one.
Can tree work be combined with fencing?
Very often it is. Tree planting, guards, hedging and stock fencing frequently run together on the same estate, which we coordinate.
How long do the guards stay on?
Until the tree is established and above browsing height, often several years. We build them to last that long and to be removed cleanly afterwards.
