Our most popular boundary fence. Vertical feather-edge boards fixed to arris rails on timber posts, giving a solid, private barrier with no gaps. Built on site rather than dropped in as panels, so it follows sloping ground and stays straight across long runs. Capping and a gravel board protect the timber and lift the lifespan. Finished in your choice of treatment.

Built with treated timber and capped against the weather, a close board fence typically lasts 15 to 20 years, and longer again where oak or concrete posts are used.

How tall can I build a close board fence?
In England a fence can usually be up to 2 metres without planning permission, or 1 metre if it borders a road or footpath used by vehicles. We advise on your specific boundary before quoting.
What posts do you use?
We use timber, concrete slotted, or galvanised metal slotted posts depending on the look and budget. Concrete and metal posts will outlast the timber boards and avoid rot at ground level.
Does close board fencing need maintenance?
Very little. An occasional coat of treatment keeps the colour, and the gravel board takes the ground moisture so the boards stay sound. We can return for any board or post repairs.
