Post and rail for agricultural boundaries that hold cattle and horses and look right on the land. Three or four rails in sawn oak or treated softwood, set to a depth that outlives the rail above and capped where exposed. We have run single lines of post and rail over 300 metres in a week with a two-man crew, on uneven ground, without leaving a track in the field.
How many rails for cattle?
Three rails is the usual choice for cattle and horses; four rails adds security for smaller or younger stock. We advise based on what the boundary has to hold.
Oak or softwood rails?
Treated softwood is cost-effective and lasts well; sawn oak costs more, lasts longer and looks superb on estates and visible frontages.
Can post and rail hold smaller stock?
On its own it holds larger stock. Adding stock wire behind the rails keeps in sheep and lambs and keeps out foxes and rabbits.
How fast can you install it?
We have run over 300 metres of single-line post and rail in a week with a two-man crew, scaling up for longer runs or tighter deadlines.
How deep are the posts set?
To a depth that outlasts the rails and holds firm, chosen for the soil and what the fence has to contain.
